Women’s Health Fair Focusing on Pain is Success in Rancho Cordova
Assemblymember Alyson Huber partnered with Hadassah Sacramento to host the Sima Spector Women’s Health Conference: Healthy Women, Healthy Lives last Thursday with over 100 women in attendance.
This year’s Health Fair was called: Feel Better! Reducing Stress and Pain in Today’s World and was free to participants. The conference provided information on reducing stress and pain of all types.
“As a working mom with two young kids and two step-kids in college, I know all too well how easy it is for woman to put themselves last. I know it is difficult but we must take the time to pay attention to what our bodies, emotions and minds are telling us – don’t wait until it’s too late,” said Assemblymember Alyson Huber in welcoming remarks to the crowd of participants. “I am proud to co-host this Health Fair because it is a great opportunity to connect with other women and resources that can empower you to improve your own health.”
Attendees also heard from keynote speaker Dr. Scott Fishman, director of UC Davis Medical Center’s Division of Pain Medicine. Other speakers discussed alternative therapies and exercise, like acupuncture and yoga.
“The Women’s Health Fair was terrific. I don’t think there are enough opportunities for women to support one another like this and in these tough times it’s that much more important,” said Leah Ezray, 10th Assembly District resident and member of Hadassah. “I want to offer my deep appreciation to Assemblymember Huber and her staff for their cooperation on the event. I also want to thank all of the fantastic speakers. I truly think they all touched the lives of the women in attendance.”
As part of the fair, attendees visited informational booths and participated in yoga exercises. Exhibitors included Zuda Yoga, National Fibromyalgia Network, Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op Health Rights Hotline, HICAP: Health Insurance Counseling Advisory Program, State Department Office of the Patient Advocate, Arthritis Foundation, and Celiac Sprue Association.
“I hope all the women who attended left feeling more knowledgeable about the resources available to them and more empowered to improve their own health and the health of their loved ones,” Huber stated.
