American River Parkway Report: September 2009

The following information was provided by the American River Safety Coalition for the month of September, 2009.

Crime

65 citations or arrests, including:

  • Arson — a female suspect was detained after witnesses allegedly saw the suspect start a fire at the Northgate access
  • Possession of hashish — a suspect was allegedly in possession of marijuana at Sunrise during Labor Day
  • Possession of/ detonation of an explosive device — a suspect was detained after reports of an explosion. The suspect allegedly admitted to manufacturing, possessing and detonating the explosive device.
  • Resisting Arrest — a female suspect was detained after reports of harrassing other visitors. The suspect allegedly would not cooperate and attempted to leave.
  • Battery — a male suspect was cited after allegedly throwing beer in the victim’s face

Other crimes on the Parkway:

  • Grand theft — unknown suspects stole 300 feet of cable from the Discovery archery range
  • Assault and battery — a homeless person received injuries to the head after a fight at Del Paso and Northgate
  • Vandalism — unknown suspects damaged a picnic table on the Parkway Foundations porch
  • Car burglaries — Two at Watt access; One at Harrington; Two at Discovery Park; One at Upper Sunrise

Other Incidents

Incidents not crime related reported on the Parkway:

  • Drowning at Discovery Park
  • Five bicycle accidents
  • Alcohol poisoning at Rossmoor
  • Boat accident at Discovery boat launch
  • Fall at Discovery Park resulting in broken ankle
  • Contraband found at Effie Yeaw Nature Center
  • Missing person found at Watt

Important Information

  • Three rangers were laid off in September
  • Stolen property has been recovered; anyone who was a victim of a car burglary along the Parkway is urged to contact the Placer County Sheriff’s Department at (530) 889-7800.
