Hi Amber! Glad to hear Botan is a favorite for you – and it sounds like for good reasons! What special treatment you received at the sushi bar! Next time I’m there I’m going to try the Philadelphia roll on your recommendation!

I’m surprised to hear about the poor service you’re getting at Stonebrook’s. My husband and I go there on occasion, and we’ve become friendly with some of the staff. Maybe ask for Terry (possibly the manager?) or Tracy – they’ve been super friendly and helpful. I know sometimes it gets pretty busy in there, so maybe that’s when the service suffers?

I’m also interested on your take of El Puerto Restaurant in the old Joann’s shopping center on the corner of Folsom and Cordova Lane. Oh, and my husband and I always get crappy service at Stonebrooks so I am wondering if we are the only ones.

I’ve been eating at Botan for 4-5 years now. I love the Philadelphia Roll(it’s always fresh) and the gyoza. I love Botan BECAUSE it’s so quiet in the evenings with usually only regulars coming in. Lunch time is their busiest time, as most people are scared to try a whole in the wall sushi shop for dinner. I currently work downtown, and I still wait til I get home to Rancho to get my sushi fix. While the downtown places are good, they’re often twice the price of Boton, with smaller portions.

Another bonus, one time when I went alone I sat at the sushi bar and the chef asked me what kind of stuff I like and “created” a special roll on the house for me. I do have to agree that even in the evenings the service occasionally gets a little slow, but usually I am there with family and friends so I try to just enjoy the time with them.
