Shortly after 7 a.m. this morning, Sacramento Metro fire fighters responded to a fire at a business location at the 2300 block of Vehicle drive in Rancho Cordova. The fire has been extinguished but caused severe damage to the room the fire was located in and extensive smoke damage to the rest of the building. No one was hurt.

The fire broke out in a storage room of an auto body shop near Sunrise and Highway 50. Firefighters are considering an elecrical problem as the cause of the fire, which is under investigation.

The Sacramento Metro Fire District wants to remind people of the danger of not immediately calling the fire department after a fire has been located. One employee at the body shop attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose and was unsuccessful before the fire department was called. This only allowed the damage to get worse and could have put more lives in danger, a spokesman said.
