Target Opens Doors to Throngs of Happy Shoppers

The Sacramento region has two brand new Target stores to welcome this week. The first is a LEED certified wonder near Mace Blvd and 80 in Davis. The second calls the Zinfandel Square Shopping Center home, and is really a newer, larger, cleaner, bigger, better version of the previous store.

With a soft opening last Wednesday, Target fans from across the city were able to spend some quality time walking the aisles and taking in the much improved inventory. The 138,000 square foot store also has an expanded food section with fresh baked goods, produce, and fresh meat. The Grand Opening on Sunday proved no less successful. Many shoppers ventured in for a little las minute weekend shopping on Sunday afternoon.

Adding an extra boost to the local economy, the new Target store is employing 165 people. Information is not available on how many of those employees worked at the previous store.

The old store was built 18 years ago, and couldn’t quite handle the capacity that a growing city needed.  When the bittersweet decision was made and the old store came tumbling down, many shoppers had a little trouble seeing the light at the end of the  tunnel. “It was a long wait. Too long. But now I’m glad that we waited. It’s perfect.” One happy Rancho Cordova resident and Target shopper expresses the joy of many.

The new store hours for the Rancho Cordova Target are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. till 9:00 p.m.  The Target, located at 10881 Olson Drive also boasts a Starbucks for super caffeinated shopping excursions and a pharmacy.

Whether you’re looking for a Halloween costume for Fido, or a new home office set, your local Target will probably have what you need. For more information about the local store, Starbucks or pharmacy, please call 503-2512.

I went to the grand opening of Target in Rancho on Sunday, I think I was one of the third shopper’s in, no fan fare, no extra savings just about a hundred employee’s stocking shelves! I almost left due to the fact that half the employee’s kept asking if I needed help, it got so laughable I was about to ask them to do my shopping for me! I was at the original opening and am very disappointed at this one. The new Target is bigger, but I was not impressed, bigger doesn’t always mean better! I did like the Starbucks inside the store, now that is worth going!!!!!!!!!

I agree about the employees asking if I needed help at every corner I turned–even after i said “no, I’m just looking,” one just stood there and looked at me. I hope that dies down–if I need help, I will ask!

It was a really nice Target though–much better than the old one.

Virginia you must of not gone to the opening on Tuesday. Then was when they had all the fan fare. There was a band outside and inside the store. They had allot of free food inside. Lots of free samples and the ribbion cutting along with members from the Rancho Cordova chamber of commerce. It was a pretty big deal then. They still had the employees asking every ten feet you walked if I needed help but they did the same thing at the soft opening of Kohl’s.

Well I guess I did not make it to the grand opening due to the fact that the signs all around the store said open Oct. 11! For that matter I checked the Rancho Post every day and there was not one word about a Target grand opening, one about Kohl’s and another about Walgreen’s, but none for this store. I also checked the Rancho Cordova City web site and no information either. I use to be proud to call Rancho my home, but with everything that doesn’t happen here, it’s getting pretty embarrassing.

  5. Virginia, I try to keep the community calendar updated with information about the grand openings of local businesses and did have the Target soft opening listed. We don’t write a story before every grand opening because it could become redundant. I apologize for the inconvenience, as Target had announced the official opening date as Sunday, the 11th. I think we can all agree that we’re glad to have the Rancho Cordova Target up and running again.

Well, all I know is I googled, searched, and looked at articles having to do with the Rancho Target opening and came up with only things about the building of it! My son had been looking forward all summer to the opening, “wow a brand new bigger Target”, he was pretty sad he missed it. In the end I believe I would rather drive a little further to a super Wal-mart for better prices and spend my money in another community. I just am not impressed with this bigger, but adequate new store.
