Students of Mills Middle School whipped themselves into a frenzy today as Principal Peter Maroon introduced a brand-new gym complete with the school’s mascot, a mustang, emblazened on the middle of the gym floor.
The gym renovation was funded by Measure N, a proposition approved by voters in 2006 that allowed Folsom Cordova Unified School District up to $125 million in bonds. The school district has scheduled renovation projects for 17 schools since Measure N’s approval, with the last project scheduled for 2015.
Principal Peter Maroon was especially proud of the gym’s mustang during the school assembly. “We want everybody in Rancho Cordova to know when they come in to this gym, they are in Mills Mustang country,” he said.
Vice Principal Dana Carrigan announced even more positive news at the assembly: The school’s Academic Performance increased from 704 in 2008 to 719 in 2009.
“Every point is an awesome, awesome improvement and you guys brought it up twelve points [sic],” she said.
The school broke in the new gym with an appearance by Radical Reality, a troup of athletes that perform at school assemblies to promote self-esteem. The group broke stacks of bricks and tore a phone book in half for the excited crowd of students.
