Body Investment Yoga Studio Holding Grand Opening and Free Classes

The Body Investment Studio, located at 10416 Investment Circle, is holding a grand opening until 8 p.m. tonight and anyone interested in learning about yoga or massage therapy is invited to attend.

The studio will also be holding a drawing for one lucky person to win a free yoga class and 50-minute massage, and the studio will hold free yoga sessions tomorrow through Saturday. Tomorrow’s free classes will be held at 11:15, 12:15 and 6 p.m.; Friday’s free classes will be held at 9 a.m., 11:15, 12:15 and 6 p.m.; and Saturday’s free classes will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

The studio will be offering yoga and massage specials through the month of September: Nine consecutive days of yoga for $9.99 and one 50-minute, full-body massage for $39.

Co-owner Kate McKinney said she and co-owner Paula Lee decided to open the yoga studio when they realized Rancho Cordova was lacking yoga studios that practiced Vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa means flow in Sanskrit, and the yoga form features a flowing movement from one yoga pose to another.

“You use your breath to move through a series of poses,” explained Shannon Shellenberg, a yoga instructor for Body Investment Studio.

McKinney said she is hoping her yoga studio will become a place for people to connect and form lasting friendships.

“We want to create a community in here,” she said. “It’s therapy and working out all in one. It’s relaxing.”

The studio currently has nearly 50 years of combined experience in its trainers. Gina Garcia, Shannon Shellenberg, Cam Mahon, Jennifer Skondin and Summer Ward all hold unique classes at lunch time and in the evening Monday through Saturday.

Instructor Gina Garcia said that taking yoga classes can not only help physical fitness, but state of mind as well.

“Sometimes when some of our poses get difficult on the mat, it reminds us that sometimes life can get difficult,” Garcia said. ”Reacting in a calm, peaceful way on the mat helps us react that way in everyday life.”
