Along with Sacramento County and the State of California, the unemployment rate for Rancho Cordova continues to rise.
According to the Employment Development Department’s most current figures for cities and Census Designated Places (CDPs), Sacramento County’s unemployment rate has risen since May 2009 from 11.1% to 12.0% in July. August figures have not been released yet. California’s unemployment rate rise is up to 11.9% in July 2009, from 11.6% in May and June.
Although Rancho Cordova is not at the extreme end of the spectrum, we are seeing mid level unemployment rates in our community. The unemployment rate in Rancho Cordova is 13.8% in July 2009, up a full point from from 12.8% in May. This figure is about the average for cities and CDPs in Sacramento County, with Walnut Grove (CDP) possessing the highest rate climb to 26.2% from 24.5% and Rancho Cordova’s close neighbor, Gold River boasting the lowest climb, at 2.0% up from1.9% within the same time frame.
On a more positive note, there have been several agencies who have hosted quite a few job fairs in Rancho Cordova between May and August of this year including the Rancho Cordova Kohl’s, so it should be interesting to revisit the unemployment rate figures in August to see if an impact was made.
Please visit the Employment Development Department for more detailed information about unemployment rates as well as employment resources.

It’s important to keep on top of information like this and to help people around us in light of growing unemployment. About a week ago, I put up a blog post about this very subject.
