BloodSource Has Busy Day at Rancho Cordova City Hall

BloodSource Bus

BloodSource, an organization that collects blood from donors in Northern California, made an appearance at City Hall on Tuesday for a mobile blood drive. Their bus was full of donors throughout the entire day, and I had the opportunity to donate blood for the first time.

The donation process is easy: Just provide your driver’s license and fill out a questionnaire regarding your health history, and the mobile team will do the rest.

Donors should definitely eat and drink a lot of water before donating to avoid dizziness or nausea. After the donation is complete, the mobile team requires each donor to eat and drink for 15 minutes before leaving.

Though I was a first-time donor, all of the people that came in during my hour-long stay had donated before and seemed happy to return.

Brad Findlay, a GIS analyst for the City of Rancho Cordova, donates his blood as a way of returning the favor for a transfusion he received in Canada.

“Since I got a transfusion, I figured I should donate,” he said.

The BloodSource Mobile teams go all over Northern California on an almost daily basis. My experience was wonderful, and I got a free pint of ice cream from Baskin Robbins for my donation. To find out where the mobile BloodSource team will be next, just go to http://www.bloodsource.org/locations.aspx.
