Communities and Physicians Together will be holding another Rancho Cordova Community Health Discussion on Saturday August 15th at the White Rock Park Community Building. It is from 9am-11am, light refreshments will be provided and a Spanish translator will be present.
Communities & Physicians Together (CPT) is a partnership between UC Davis Medical Center and the Cordova Community Collaborative for Healthy Children and Families. The mission of CPT is to train residents, physicians in training, to engage communities in reciprocal partnership that will improve health, safety and overall well-being of their patients. The residents spend two weeks, once a year during their three year residency, in the community on an Advocacy rotation.
During the two weeks the physicians in training get to know the community through the lens of Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) . ABCD is an attitude towards community development that looks at the positive gifts of a community and the people living there instead of the traditional needs-based models. The Advocacy rotation allows the residents to learn outside of a hospital setting and work with community members to develop health and wellness projects that benefit the the community.
The benefits of this program reach not only the community the physicians spend time in, but also the physicians and the their future patients because they come away with a better understanding of people and their lives outside of being a patient.
CPT also partners with 7 other collaboratives in the Sacramento/Yuba area.
