City Plans to Improve Access Between Target and Kohl’s Locations
The Kohl’s and Target at Zinfandel and Olson Drives are both on track for their grand openings in October, and the City of Rancho Cordova is planning even more improvements to the Rancho Cordova Town Center even after the stores open.
The Target location currently stands as the main focus of the shopping center, and the former Mervyn’s building where Kohl’s is moving in sits behind it. The parking lot that will serve Kohl’s and the businesses surrounding it is only accessible by either driving behind Target or driving to the other end of Olson Drive.
The Economic Development Department is in the process of designing a better access point that will improve the connection between the businesses and make it easier for customers to travel between them.
“We’re basically taking three shopping centers that don’t relate to each other at all and rearranging them,” said Economic Development Manager Micah Runner. “We’ll be repositioning buildings to make the new access point the center of focus.”
Their vision for the shopping center has some hurdles, though.
“What we’re trying to do is create more of a focal point of access there but it affects five different property owners,” Runner said. “The point we’re at now is we’re internally working on designing an access point. We’ll then go to the property owners.”
Runner also said the project will take time to complete because multiple people are affected. The new access point plan will not be ready by the time Kohl’s and Target open in October.
The new Target is scheduled to open Oct. 11 and will feature a pharmacy, photo department and a Starbucks. The Kohl’s is also scheduled to open in October and will be holding a job fair from Aug. 9 – 13 at the Rancho Cordova Marriott.

This is good news. The Target shopping center is very segmented and it would probably be much better for overall business to have the entire center be more accessible. I hope the city comes up with a good plan and that the property owners get on board.
It will be nice to have better access from Folsom Blvd.
its an overall great idea. i would however like to know how or where to apply for the Target shopping center. will there be a job fair for Target as well as Kohls did?
