‘Akeelah and the Bee’ Playing at Hagan Park This Weekend
The cost of movie tickets are seemingly always on the rise. A family of 4 will easily spend $50 on a night at the movies and many families just can’t afford the extra expense. The Leadership Rancho Cordova Class of 2009 is bringing the solution to a park near you in the form of Family Film Night. Watch family friendly movies in one of three Rancho Cordova parks this summer for free.
This Saturday, July 18th, “Akeelah and the Bee” will be playing in Hagan Park. Make a left at the park entrance and the movie screen will be set up in the field. Be sure to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. The movie will begin at dark, but pre-movie activities, including games and music, will begin at 7:30.
“Akeelah and the Bee” is a memorable story about an African American middle school student who overcomes challenges and finds herself through a series of personal challenges that culminate at the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Rated PG and running an hour and 52 minutes, “Akeelah and the Bee” won 8 of the 12 awards the movie was nominated for.
Feel free to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy on the field. Local non-profit groups will be on hand selling water, sodas, ice cream and other snacks too.
All CRPD rules and guidelines must be followed. Do not bring any alcoholic beverages, firearms, or weapons to the event. Please dispose of refuse in the proper containers and if you bring your dog along, be sure he is on a leash.
For future Family Film Fair evenings showing different movies, please see the Rancho Cordova Post Community Calendar.
