Temporary Alcohol Ban on American River

From July 3rd through July 6th, alcohol will not be permitted on the American River. In an effort to increase safety in the area, Park Rangers will be out in force ensuring that all river go-ers are abiding by the ban.

Alcohol, even in closed containers will not be permitted on the American River. The ban comes after past years have seen drunk and rowdy crowds on the shore and afloat in rafts. Drunken rafters have even been known to use oars as weapons and police have had to be called out on numerous occasions to deflate dangerous situations. People who have been drinking also have a tendency to not wear a life jacket when enjoying the River, which can lead to unnecessary drownings.

If planning to spend time on the American River this holiday weekend, please do so safely and without the company of alcohol.

This is a good idea. The river can be dangerous even without the accompaniment of alcohol.

Every law passed takes away another freedom that you enjoy!

So Rob, are you saying we should not have laws? Maybe we should take out all of those pesky red lights and stop signs too because of how they hamper our freedom to drive however we wish? Why is this not a good law in your mind?
