Free Life Jacket Loaners Available at Local Fire Stations
The Department of Boating and Waterways, along with Sacramento area fire stations, is offering free life jacket loans for anyone who will be on the waterways this summer. The life jackets will be located at fire stations that are specially marked with a ‘Life Jacket Loan Station’ sign in front.
The only information required to get a loaner life jacket is your name, address, phone number and driver’s license number. Fire stations will have life jackets for all ages, including infants, but only those 18 or older will be able to check them out.
Life jackets can be taken for a day or a weekend, but longer check-out times are not permitted. For a list of participating fire stations, click here.

Well intentioned, but I predict failure. The loaner life jackets should be available closer to publicly-accessible waters, such as the toll booths to lake and river parks, and lifeguard chairs near public pools.
