Recycling Tip of the Week: Some Uses for Old Newspapers
Old newspapers can be used for mulch and to control weeds in your garden. Simply wet the newspaper and place thickly over the garden then cover with bark or stones. Newspapers can be used to clean windows instead of paper towels. They can be used to line trash cans rather than using plastic bags.
Newspapers can be used to line bird, hamster or gerbil cages. They also makes a perfect wrap for raw fish at the farmers market. Rather than buy a new fly swatter each summer, roll up yesterday’s news and smash those pesky summer flies in your home.
Instead of using wrapping paper for your nephews birthday present, wrap your presents the green way with old newspapers. You could also use old newspapers in place of peanuts when mailing packages to family and friends. You could use the highly combustible newsprint in your fireplace, BBQ or fire pit as fire starter.
There are literally dozens of uses for old newsprint. Be creative and recycle that old news.
