Anatolia Election of District Delgates

This past Saturday, June 20th the Anatolia Home Owners Association held a free community BBQ followed by the annual meeting for electing District Delegates with the eventual plan to elect new homeowners to the HOA Board. Unfortunately, once again the district quorum requirement was not met and therefore an official meeting could not be held. The quorum requirement was 25% of the existing homeowners in each of the four neighborhood districts.

The last meeting in which the required quorum was obtained was in May of 2006. Since that time there have been several attempts to hold a HOA meeting with the purpose of electing delegates in order to elect new homeowners to the HOA Board. Currently, there are five board seats of which 3 are currently filled by home builders or their representatives.

The recent election was for four delegates, four alternate delegates, and two board members. One delegate and one alternate would have been nominated from the floor and elected for one year terms, and two board members nominated and elected at-large for three year terms.

The Anatolia neighborhood is divided into four districts A, B, C, and D. District A contains 483 lots, District B 665 lots, District C 448 lots, and District D 432 lots. None of the districts met the quorum requirement and therefore the threshold for Anatolia HOA Board quorum now drops to 15% of the lots in each district.

There was a small but committed group of residents in attendance and some lively discussion about topics ranging from front yard landscaping to the Comcast contract to traffic near Sunrise Elementary School. Although there were opinions on all sides of these issues neighbors were united on one issue, getting enough participation to hold an election this time around. Many volunteered to walk and talk to their neighbors, gather proxy forms, and work together to prepare for the next meeting in July.

The group agreed to a tentative date for the next meeting on July 15th at 7pm in the Anatolia Clubhouse. A new mailing with additional information, an agenda, and proxy form will be mailed to residents. For more information visit the Clubhouse or sign up for the Yahoo Group at AnatoliaHOA.org.

What is it going to take for residents to have a change in behavior/values? It sounds like it would be an enormous advantage to get a quorum.

The last Hoa meeting was on Father’s day weekend. Granted, this wasn’t convenient for most. But, overall Anatolia’s Districts failed to meet quorom due to 1) attendance and/or 2) Proxy’s were not sent in. The whole proxy system is confusing/complicated at best.
So my question to all of our Anatolia Residents is this:
Question: Do you know what this Proxy is for?
I know, because I went to the meeting and I also read the documents on-line at the AnatoliaHOA.org website.
Please respond by posting a comment or replying to this posting so we can clarify if this was a part of the miscommunication driving the lack of interest. This is our ticket to a voice in driving our HOA. Please get on board! Thank you!
