June is Adopt A Shelter Cat Month

To highlight June as “Adopt-a-Shelter Cat” month, the County Animal Shelter has many friendly cats and kittens available for adoption to good homes! The American Society for the Prevention to Cruelty to Animals estimates that of the five to seven million animals that enter shelters across the County, almost 70 percent of the cats are euthanized. To help reduce the amount of cats and kittens brought into the shelter and feral cat populations, it is important that all cats older than four months be spayed or neutered.

“Spring is always “kitten season” because cats generally give birth in the spring,” said Pat Claerbout, Animal Shelter Director. “Now is the perfect time to visit the animal shelter and select the ideal feline companion!”

“Because cats can have multiple litters in a year, it is extremely important that people alter their cats, even if the cats live indoors,” said Claerbout. “We can impact the cat over-population through spay and neuter and licensing programs. We need everyone to do their part.”
