Rancho Cordova and Sacramento Children’s Museum Join Forces
The City of Rancho Cordova is partnering with the Sacramento Children’s Museum to bring about a hands on interactive center for the children of Rancho Cordova and the greater Sacramento area. Sacramento Children’s Museum representatives will announce site selection for the Museum and the activity areas that will be in the opening phase at the Rancho Cordova City Council Meeting on Monday, April 20th. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. int he Council Chambers at City Hall (2729 Prospect Park Dr).
Community members are encouraged to join with area businesses, educators, librarians, professionals, children’s advocates, and the Junior League of Sacramento, to create the newest family-oriented destination attraction in this area. The Sacramento Children’s Museum is scheduled to open in January 2010. It will feature exhibit areas that will encourage children’s imaginations and prompt them to test, tinker, laugh and wonder.

My son and I have travelled to numerous cities across the U.S. and nearly all of them have a hands on Children’s Museum that we always make a point in visiting. Rancho Cordova offers a number of higher learning institutions, hotels and corp. HQ’s, but what it’s lacking is a family-friendly museum. The opportunity to have one that will also bring tourism dollars to our community is AWESOME!
Outstanding idea!
This is wonderful news. I’m wondering where in Rancho we might designate as the arts district. It would be nice to have an art gallery or two to complement this museum.
Now your talking Geoffrey! Although the Crocker Art Museum is wonderful, it isn’t easily accessible for those who are transportation-challenged. Even a community performing arts center that groups can can rent to offer theaterical or musical performances would be terrific too!
A performing arts center would be great too. I’m wondering if there is a group in Rancho Cordova dedicated to the arts which is actively planning the future for visual and performing arts? Is there any visioning taking place planning the future of the arts in our community? If you know of a group or individual please leave a message here.
I don’t know of any organized arts group in Rancho. I know Mitchell, Mills & CHS have outstanding music programs, and 2-3 elementary schools put on some very clever theatrical productions, and First Covenant Church has a marvelous dance school as well as does wonderful theatrical productions like Evening in December, but I don’t believe there is any one organization to pull all these performance arts resources together.
Will you be attending Monday’s (4/20) City Council meeting to hear about the Children’s Museum? I’m going to try to.
A Children’s Museum is a wonderful idea! We are looking forward to it. It would be even better if the museum had a family lounge area (something like the Galleria at Roseville); is that being considered?
OOOOOOOO. Another great idea!
Wouldn’t it be great to offer party rooms, where kids could have their birthday party there? Birthday party package deals? A party room + museum admission? Rancho Cordova doesn’t have much in the way of birthday party spots for younger children.
