Get to Know Your Local Motors
Motor Officers are often misunderstood. The majority of the population only interacts with this special group of officers under negative circumstances like traffic stops. While receiving a speeding ticket is frustrating and even a little embarrassing, the officers are doing their job to protect others on the road. To see the lighter side of these brave officers, community members will have chance to meet the them in a family friendly setting that includes barbecue, on April 19 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Hosted by the Rancho Cordova Elks, the Western States Motor Officer’s Association fundraiser will be held at 11440 Elks Circle in Rancho Cordova. Motor Officers will hold demonstrations and will discuss topics ranging from performance to accessories. Participants will not be able to ride the motorcycles, however the officers will share safety tips and tricks.
Every year in May, officers from around the country travel to Washington D.C. to pay their respects to fallen officers and their families during National Law Enforcement Memorial Week. This year, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department and the Rancho Cordova Police Department will see Deputy Larry Canfields‘ name added to the memorial wall. The cost of the trip, transportation of vehicles, and lodging is expected to be between $40,000 and $60,000- all of which will have to be paid for by the officers themselves.
