According to authorities, a wind-driven fire destroyed a Rancho Cordova home Sunday afternoon. The fire displaced five people who lived in the home.

At 3:30 p.m., the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to a residential fire in the 10600 block of Lambrusca Drive, says a district news release.

It took over 40 firefighters a half hour to control the blaze. The home was totally engulfed in flames and firefighters had serious concerns about the fire spreading due to heavy winds and sporadic wind gusts. The release states that damage from the fire was valued at $200,000.

The firefighters were successful in containing the blaze and no other structures were damaged. No major injuries were reported.  However, one person was taken to the hospital for difficulty breathing.
