Cordova High Baseball Coach Guy Anderson Inducted into Hall of Fame

Rancho Cordova’s own  Guy Anderson can add another honor to his already impressive list. The Cordova High baseball coach will be among the 11 chosen few inducted in to the National High School Hall of Fame by the National Federation of State High School Associations at its annual meeting on July 1st in Chicago.

With 822 victories under his belt, Anderson is second in the state and fifth on the all-time national prep list. He has also won 15 league championships, six Sac-Joaquin Section titles and led 23 playoff teams. Anderson directed some of the state’s top teams in the 1970s and his Cordova High teams won five section titles in the 1980s. In the ’90s, Anderson coached Geoff Jenkins, now a major league player after a brief stint at USC.

Also selected to the hall of fame were Dana Miroballi, who won 10 state cross country and track and field titles at Wheeling (Ill.) High School in the 1980s, and Billy Bye, who won 21 letters in six sports at Thief River Falls and Anoka high schools in Minnesota in the 1940s. Dick Dullaghan, won eight Indiana football championships at Carmel and Ben Davis high schools; Catherine Lempesis, who’s won 15 state titles in cross country and track and field at four South Carolina schools; Harry Breland, who won 824 games and nine state baseball titles at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove High School. Two administrators were selected for the 2009 class: Clair Muscaro, commissioner of the Ohio High School Athletic Association for 14 years; and Ruth Rehn, a leader in the development of girls sports programs with the South Dakota High School Activities Association.

Anderson is still active is his own right, playing on a senior softball league and biking across the country. His passion for discipline and the love of the game keep him focused.  Luckily for Cordova High, he has no set plans for retiring at this point.
