Hayden is a huggable teddy bear with a happy-go-lucky personality. He is very smart and well trained – he knows the commands “sit, stay and down,” he can walk on a leash without pulling and he is showing strong signs of being house trained. His owner had breast cancer and became too sick to take care of him. Although she loved him dearly she couldn’t find a home for him and was forced to bring him to the shelter with hope that a nice family would visit the shelter and adopt him.

Calvin is the main character of the series. His daily mishaps and ludicrous ideas serve as the basis for most of the stories. While Calvin is book smart, he lacks a great deal of wisdom. Whether he is dealing with acne or chasing after his sweetheart Shandra, Calvin never has a dull moment.

The California Junior Scholarship Federation at Mitchell Middle School with the help of their advisor, Dale Waldo, have decided to help other students in need. Mr. Waldo recognized that there were students attending Mitchell that could “use a helping hand in the form of clothes”. After the idea was brought to the students of the CJSF Club, they created and are implementing a plan to sponsor and run a clothes closet.
