River Bend Park Acquires New Land
The Sacramento County Department of Regional Parks has recently purchased 10 acres of natural habitat within River Bend Park (formally Goethe Park) for $25,000. The property was purchased last September from Camp Fire U.S.A. , a youth development organization that currently serves nearly 750,000 children nation wide.
The 10 acres will include an area called the “Camp Fire Day Camp Site” to recognize the service and the staff members who make an investment of many greater Sacramento youth. The property was originally gifted to Camp Fire U.S.A. by C.M. Goethe, of whom the park was originally named.
Jill Ritsman, Regional Parks Deputy Director is especially appreciative because, “This piece of beautiful land, situated within our park boundaries is a great opportunity to create a special place for youth to come explore the great outdoors within the urbanized area”.
The County will seek grants to improve the facilities and promote future development such as easier access, outdoor classrooms and new restrooms. The County hopes this area will promote further use by families and youth oriented groups.
The local Camp Fire U.S.A Chapter has recently dissolved, and the group needed to sell the property located in the middle of the Park. The funds to purchase the property came from the Habitat Restoration Fund, of which , the money is used only for Park land aquisitions.

Does Sacramento County oversee CRPD? Why didn’t CRPD purchase this property if it is within their territory? Or maybe it is not. $25,000 sounds like a great deal for that amount of land.
