Chief Rueben Meeks of the Rancho Cordova Police Department is offering a rare opportunity to residents, business owners and employees of Rancho Cordova businesses. Those chosen to be a part of the The Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Citizens Academy will be given an inside look at policing in their community. The Academy is designed to foster improved relationships and communication between citizens and police through education.
The Citizens Academy is taught by police executives and veteran officers, and will give members of the community the opportunity to learn about policing in today’s society. During the academy, students will be introduced to traffic laws, patrol procedures, laws of arrest, investigations and other select topics.
To meet the minimum requirements to be eligible for the class candidates mus be at least 21 years old and have no prior felony convictions. Candidates must also have no misdemeanor arrests within the last year and must live or work in the city of Rancho Cordova.
The Academy will be held at the Police Service Center, 10361 Rockingham Drive in Sacramento on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm – 9:30pm beginning February 24, 2009 and ending March 31, 2009. Being a part of the Academy does not require a registration fee to attend. All applicants must complete an application and submit it by 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 4, 2009.

I think that this could be a very valuable source of information for business owners and operators and a great way to feed information about RCPD policies and procedures into the community.
