Residents to Fight Back Against String of Burglaries in Anatolia
On Tuesday, January 6th, another robbery in Anatolia prompted a call to the police. The combined efforts of the Rancho Cordova Police Department and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department resulted in arrests of four of the six young men involved in the burglary of at least two different homes. The suspects are thought to be residents of the Anatolia area and at least one is a minor.
Two of the suspects evaded police and left the scene in a red pick up truck. Witnesses were able to positively identify the remaining suspects involved in the robbery. One witness saw one of the suspects climb into a second story house at around 2:00pm. Another suspect was spotted by the Sheriff’s helicopter jumping backyard fences near Pericles and Erato Circle in Rancho Cordova.
Tuesday’s burglaries are just the most recent of a string of such crimes targeting Anatolia homes. When asked what RCPD plans to do about the safety of the city’s citizens, their response is much like other police departments through out California. They do not have the resources to man all of the neighborhoods that need their attention. These unfortunate circumstances have led Anatolia residents to take matters into their own hands. On Wednesday January 7th at 6:30 in the evening a community meeting will be held in the club house to discuss the recent break ins and what the community is doing to prevent such crimes.
If you are concerned about your property, there are some simple, low cost ways to protect your home. Meet with other neighbors in your area and form a neighborhood watch. Not only is this a great way to meet the people who live near you, but you can feel safer as you head to work knowing there are people next door who will be watching your house for you. You can also be aware of your garage. As the number one entry point for home invasions, make sure that entrances leading to the garage are locked and secure. Also limit the time the garage door is open. You don’t want to advertise the (often expensive) items that are commonly kept in the garage. You can also install motion sensors in your front and back yards and be conscious of where you plant bushes and shrubbery that could hinder escape routes or temporary hiding places. Just making a point to be aware of your surroundings will benefit in the over all safety of your neighborhood. Remember to always call the police if you see or suspect suspicious activity.

I hope they have a productive meeting tonight. What an important meeting to attend!!!! How unfortunate to see young people breaking into houses – especially in their own neighborhood.
We ought to rely on Police and local authorities to help protect us and pave the way for a better community, but when all is said and done, we need to look out for each other and be very intentional about building relationships in our neighborhoods. The series of break-ins is a real bummer, but on the positive side they do pose an opportunity to foster a deeper sense of connectedness and cooperation amongst residents.
The home owner association need to be pro-active in alerting everyone in the community know of any issues especially something as grave as the above. So, everyone in the neighborhood is aware of immediate danger. If any home owners have not change the default code to the garage door opener, they might want to do so right away. Make sure you keep doors and windows lock even when you are home. Get your neighbors to watch your house frequently whenever you are gone even for a day. And, a home security system (if you have not subscribed to one as yet) ensure a little peace of mind.
If "[t]hey do not have the resources to man all of the neighborhoods that need their attention," then what is our representatives, the Mayor and City Council, going to do about safety within our City. Anatolia residents just paid property taxes of almost $2,500 in direct levies, over and above the regular property tax bill. That extra fee is earmarked for police services.
I will ask them! http://www.cityofranchocordova.org/Index.aspx?pag...
I do not understand why residents must pay an extra $2500 a year tax (call it a fee, but it really is a tax) for basic police protection. Arent the basic property taxes high enough?
Do they have the names of the community people that commtted the robberies? I'd like to introduce them to my aluminum baseball bat.
check sacramento grapevine, their names were posted except for the minor.
Ryan Hill, age 19, and Brandon Tanner, age 18, our neighbor's children — home burglary is a serious felony.
