Rancho Cordova authorities are asking for the publics help finding two missing teenage girls last seen Thursday, January 29 with their infant children, according to Sacramento County sheriff investigators. Detectives believe the girls are together. Shaylee, 14, and Kayla, 16, were last seen walking away from their Queenwood Drive home with their infants around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, Sacramento County sheriff’s Sgt. Tim Curran said.

A 30-year-old man is under arrest in connection with a fatal December shooting in Rancho Cordova, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said Friday. Derrick Sam is accused in the slaying of Timothy Brodie, 30. On Dec. 19, 2009, Brodie was kidnapped in the early morning and taken to a Rancho Cordova apartment complex at 3060 Laurelhurst Drive, where he was shot several times in the parking lot and left to die.

Seventy employees at the Delta Dental office in Rancho Cordova learned Friday morning that they will be laid off. Delta Dental has announced nation wide layoffs totaling 156 employees. According to company officials, the cuts, combined with a hiring freeze, amount to a 5 percent reduction of its workforce.

Folsom Cordova Unified School District could face layoffs due to a possible nine percent reduction in funding to public education. The school district would need to cut spending by $10.5 million, and that may include jobs within the district. A notice on the budget section of the FCUSD website suggests that cuts to employment are a definite possibility. However, the cuts will most likely begin in administrative areas and positions before reductions in other positions, according to the budget website.

Boo and Yoda’s hard-luck story could have a happy ending if someone like you takes interest their lives today. These boys were brought into the shelter together shortly after their owner passed away. Boo, a 5-year-old Basset hound, and Yoda, a 5-year-old bit pull, have been together their whole lives, and the Sacramento County Animal Shelter is making an effort to keep it that way. Even though they are in a kennel together they are confused and want a home.

As of February 15, Sutter Health will close three of its retail health clinics in the region. The reason for the closures include too little traffic to make the business viable. Six employees at clinics in Rite Aid stores in Elk Grove, Folsom and Rancho Cordova will lose their jobs, but Sutter will help find placements for them.
