Sacramento  is featuring the area’s first New Year’s Eve ball drop. In true New York fashion, the glittering ball will drop as the clock strikes midnight.  The ball, which is actually a lighted cube encased in a spherical wire cage. will descend from a  specially built tower and illuminate a 22,000-watt LED sign at 930 K St.  But none of this would have been possible with out Lighting Science of Rancho Cordova, the creators of the sparkling orb.

If seeing a huge sphere slowly falling from the sky in the middle of downtown Sacramento isn’t enough excitement for you, area business owners are throwing a free outdoor party to attract celebrants to the 10 blocks along K street where this years’ bash will be held. The outdoor party will also feature musical performances and a video projection of New Year’s Eve events from around the world.
