Garbage Collection Changes Days to Accommodate Holidays

The holiday season brings joy, laughter, family traditions, and greater than average amounts of trash. In order to be prepared for the holiday season’s trash pickup, the City has provided a convenient holiday schedule.  If your regularly scheduled pick up day is on Christmas Day, Thursday December 25 or on Friday December 26th, service will be provided one day later instead. Thursday pickups will be on Friday, and Friday pickups will be on Saturday, December 27.

A holiday collection schedule will also be in place for New Year’s Day. If your regularly scheduled pick up is on Thursday, January 1, or Friday, January 2nd, service will be provided a day later than usual.

The Christmas tree is a holiday tradition in many homes. Unfortunately, the tree must come down at some point. As tedious as the process of taking down the ornaments may be, at least you don’t have to worry about what to do with the tree once it’s out of your living room. If you cut the tree up in lengths short enough for your green waste bin, make sure the lid can still close. If that isn’t an option, you can set the tree on your curbside (next  to your bins) for collection any time between December 26 and January 16. Be sure to have removed all of your ornaments and other decorations.  Artificial trees should be broken down to fit inside your regular trash can.
