FLC Among Fastest Growing Community Colleges
Folsom Lake College has again been recognized as one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the U.S., according to a report from the national trade publication, Community College Week. Folsom Lake College was the seventh fastest-growing community college with 5,000-9,999 students, according to the publication’s review of Fall 2006-Fall 2007 enrollment data, with the college showing a 15.2% increase in enrollment. Folsom Lake College was ranked 10th the previous year.
“This national recognition is very gratifying as it affirms the hard work done by our faculty, staff, and administrators. This recognition validates what we’ve been working towards for years: our surrounding communities view Folsom Lake College as a viable destination point to address their higher education needs,” said Dr. Thelma Scott-Skillman, Folsom Lake College President.
The Community College Week report uses data from the National Center for Educational Statistics, a division of the U.S. Department of Education. The statistics only include students enrolled in courses that count toward an associate degree, certificate, or other formal award. This distinction is important because the ranking shows more members of Folsom Lake College’s communities are coming to the college to earn a degree or certificate.
“Folsom Lake College has seen consistent annual growth in the number of students earning degrees and certificates,” Dr. Scott-Skillman said. “We are honored to serve these students and help them reach their academic goals.”
