Domestic Dispute Ends in Officer Involved Shooting
Man Fatally Shot by Rancho Cordova Officer
An alleged domestic violence dispute ended in an officer involved shooting Sunday evening. Rancho Cordova Police responded to a report of domestic disturbance just before 9 p.m. Sunday at a gas station on the 33-hundred block of Mather Field Drive. When the officers arrived at the scene, a man and woman were sitting in a vehicle having an argument. It was apparent that the argument appeared to be escalating.
The officer was speaking with the subjects when the male passenger got out of the car displaying a handgun and then fired several rounds at the officer. The officer was able to find a position of cover and return fire- striking the man.
Sacramento Metro Fire responded to the shooting and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s officials identified the man as Donald Frederick Robinson, 19, of Rancho Cordova. The female passenger’s identity has not yet been released.
The Rancho Cordova Police officer involved in the shooting is ten year veteran of the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department. In accordance with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department’s policies and procedures, the officer involved in this incident has been placed on paid administrative leave.
