Construction Moves Ahead for FLC Visual and Performing Arts Center

Construction is now in full swing on Folsom Lake College’s regional Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPAC), with crews making noticeable progress on the main stage and foundations. The college has launched a live webcam that allows the community to see the construction in action.

The VAPAC is an 80,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility that will house instructional programs in the arts and technical support of the arts, and will be a beacon in the region to draw people to the college for entertainment and performances.

The center will be a venue for national and international touring companies, professional promoters, and will provide local arts organizations a place to present their performances. The VAPAC will house three wonderful theatre spaces, an art gallery, and studio classrooms for students. The main theater seats 800, making it the kind of venue that can attract musicals, dance performances, recognized speakers, and many other activities.

These activities will become a vital cultural resource for the City of Folsom and its surrounding region. Residents of the region currently have very few options to see live performances and as our traffic corridors continue to struggle with overcrowding, people are opting out of driving long distances to attend events. The center is expected to open in late Fall 2010.

The community can see VAPAC construction in action through a new webcam. Start here and just click on “Visual and Performing Arts Center” on the home page and then “Click here for live webcam.”

A member of the Los Rios Community College District, Folsom Lake College serves approximately 9,100 students at the main Folsom campus, El Dorado Center, and Rancho Cordova Center.
