Car Accident Victim Identified

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified today the victim who died in a single-vehicle crash on Jackson Road as 50-year-old Rickey Moore of Sacramento.

Computers for Schools in Costa Rica Care of Rancho Cordova

Two Rancho Cordova residents discovered a need for computers in a school in Rancho Cordova’s sister city of Turrialba, Costa Rica. It was then that Sergio Diaz and Maria Lopez created a plan that would give 15 extra computers from the city of Rancho Cordova to the school in Turrialba. Mexicana Airlines has agreed to fly the computers free of charge to San Jose, Costa Rica.

Reinventing Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova

Owners of businesses or properties within a one-to-three block radius of Folsom Boulevard, between Bradshaw Road and Sunrise Boulevard, are invited to be on a steering committee for the new “Reinventing Folsom Boulevard” group.

Thou Shalt Not Rifle Through Thy Neighbor’s Trash

In an effort to further make Rancho Cordova a safe and positive place to live, City Council passed an ordinance that prohibits any unauthorized entry into waste containers. This ordinance strongly correlates to the Building Strong Neighborhoods Program and is aimed at making it very clear that going through waste receptacles is prohibited. It is now a violation of City code for people to reach into a container and remove materials.

Celebrate Some ‘Howl’iday Fun

The”Winter Woof Fest!” will be held from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Cordova Recreation Park District (CRPD) Headquarters Building #1 at 2197 Chase Drive in Rancho Cordova. Because all dogs need to spend some quality time with Santa, and because it’s so darn cute,dogs can have their photo taken with Santa for $5. There will also be vendors and a silent auction as well as popcorn, coffee, hot chocolate, t-shirts, bandannas and bows for sale.

Pet of the Week: Scottie

Scottie is a white and orange full grown tabby cat with a gentle loving spirit. He came to the shelter a month ago and has been waiting patiently to be adopted. After a month most cats develop kennel cough, which is like a common cold for a cat, and can also become stir crazy in their cage. Scottie, on the other hand, has stayed healthy and has made his cage his little home.

Cordova High Students Prepare for Scheduled ‘Disaster’

Thursday morning will erupt into a disaster zone at Cordova High School when students participate in a fake evacuation for their graduation drill. Over 100 students and emergency personnel will take part in the mock disaster Thursday morning at the Cordova High School at 2239 Chase Drive.

Vintner’s Cellar Custom Winery is opening in the Historic Nimbus Winery building. If you have ever wanted to make your own wine but thought it was too expensive and too much of a hassle, then this winery is for you. Vintner’s Cellar, a national franchise based in Grand Blanc, Michigan, has announced the opening of their newest store located at 12401 Folsom Blvd., Rancho Cordova, CA 95742.

It’s a Holly Jolly Christmas

Rancho Cordova is starting off the holiday season on Thanksgiving weekend with festive music, delicious hot drinks, and even snow! The Cordova Community Christmas Tree Lighting will be held on Sunday, Nov. 30 at Village Green Park at Capital Village, located at Zinfandel Drive and International. The fun for the whole family starts at 4:30 p.m. with the Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m.
