The funeral service for Larry Canfield, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy killed in a motorcycle accident on Coloma Road, has been scheduled for Thursday morning in Elk Grove. The memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Elk Grove, 8939 E. Stockton Blvd. The public is invited to attend.

A processional will follow the service. The processional will begin at the church and will end at the Galt Arno Cemetery, 14180 Joy Drive. The details of the processional and road closures have not yet been made public. After the graveside services, there will be a law enforcement reception at Littleton Community Center in Galt, which will not be open to the public.

On Wednesday, a viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Lawn Elk Grove Memorial Park, 9189 East Stockton Blvd.

The deputy is survived by his wife, Michelle, and sons Tyler, 12, and Bryce, 10.

A Larry Canfield Memorial Fund has been set up through Exchange Bank. The bank has two branches in the area: 2320 Sunset Blvd., Suite 100, Rocklin; and 1420 Rocky Ridge Drive, Suite 190, Roseville. The account number is 1205001934.

Cordova High Teacher Nominated for Prestigious Award

The California League of High Schools announced its 2008 Educator of the Year finalists for Region 3. One of our very own, Ms. Erva Watts of Cordova High School has been nominated. The nominees will be honored at the Croatian American Cultural Center during a special dinner on Thursday, November 20. Region 3 includes Alpine, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo and Yuba counties.
