Huber Defeats Sieglock for Assembly Seat

In a come from behind victory, Allison Huber defeated Jack Sieglock in what amounted to a very, very close race for the 10th District seat. Sieglock, who was ahead in the ballot count for more than three weeks, officially lost the election when it became clear on Wednesday that he couldn’t match Huber’s 505 vote lead with less than 300 absentee ballots to count.

Students Photgraphy Work On Display

Folsom Lake College photography students will have their work displayed November 11 through December 11 at the college’s El Dorado Center in the Library. The display features 43 student photos of Mono Lake and the ghost town of Bodie, on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas not too far east of Yosemite.

Sac State Recycles

A team of Sac State students is competing in a global innovation competition. The competition, hosted by Stanford University, challenged students to create as much value as possible using water bottles. Sounds confusing and a bit esoteric, right? Well, it gets better: Students were allowed to define and measure “value” however they chose. Sac State’s team met the challenge by creating a video about recycling, which members put together after two days of brainstorming, while in-between midterms.

Rosemont Toy Drive

The Rosemont Community Association will be conducting its annual holiday toy drive on Saturday, December 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents of Rosemont and beyond are invited to drop off toys at the Save Mart on Kiefer Blvd. It is asked that the toy be in new condition, in its original wrapping. Please also consider bringing “child friendly” toys for children of all ages and for both genders.

American River Bankshares Could See Possible Treasury Investment

Recently, the United States Treasury has approved a $6 million investment in Rancho Cordova’s American River Bankshares. This comes as part of the government’s plan to spur lending and revive the economy.

The holiday season just isn’t complete without the requisite visit with Santa. Parents across the country have been handing their children over to the chubby stranger in a red suit for years, all for the sake of the coveted photo with Santa. Not to say that some children don’t love it. And it’s a great gift for grandparents. This year in Rancho Cordova, families will be able to visit Santa and have breakfast at Applebees.

Aerojet Faces Fine for Alleged Water Quality Violations

Rancho Cordova-based GenCorp Inc. and its Aerojet subsidiary are facing a fine of $12,000 by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board in connection with alleged violations of effluent limitations. Water quality-based effluent limitations are calculated in order to insure that discharges to waters are in compliance with water quality standards
