Oct 17th, 2008 | By Michelle Ventress | Category: Crime

When a Rancho Cordova man heard someone trying to kick down his door, he grabbed a gun and shot the suspect. The shooting occurred just after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. The 26 year old man then held the suspect at gun point until authorities arrived.

The suspect was then transported to a local hospital is and expected to survive. After he is treated, he will probably be arrested on suspicion of home invasion robbery, say Sgt. Tim Curran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Police were called the the 2300 block of Vehicle Drive by the resident’s mother. She had been on the phone with her son when he yelled that someone was trying to break into his apartment, then hung up. The officers found evidence that someone was trying to force entry into the home along with a second handgun that is thought to have been carried by the alleged burglar.

The residents did not seem to know each other and it is unknown as to why this apartment was targeted. Officers found no evidence of any illegal activity, such as drugs, in the apartment.
