Would Be Burglar Caught on Tape
Sep 29th, 2008 | By Michelle Ventress | Category: Gold RiverYou hear all kinds of excuses for what people may due when the economy goes South. But there is absolutely no excuse for trying to steal from someone else. A would be thief realized that the hard way when he tried to break into a home in Gold River only to find himself staring into the lens of a conveniently placed security camera.
Gold River resident, Stephen Fischer, said it happened while he was out of town in the Bay area on a Sunday. He didn’t realize anything was wrong until the following morning when he tried to set his burglar alarm. When he checked the system, he realized on of the windows was off it’s track which then led him to check the video surveillance system he installed just last month.
The recording shows a young man trying to open two sliding glass doors in Fischer’s back yard, then heading over to the window, when it was probably thrown off track- triggering the alarm. The video also clearly shows the young man as he realizes his every move is being recorded. The young man then looks at the other side of the house, presumably to see if there is another camera there. He immediately walks out of the line of sight of the camera. The next image is of a pair of hands dismantling the camera.
While the camera may be gone, the recording isn’t. Because the shots of the potential thief were so clear, authorities were able to create still shots that have been given to local patrol deputies. The burglar alarm may have saved Fischer’s home from being broken in to, but the camera deserves the credit when this guy is caught.
