Candidate Statement: Rick Sloan

Sep 23rd, 2008 | By Michelle Ventress | Category: Candidates

Parks and recreation programs bring fun and good health to our community. I am committed to quality programs, safe parks, and financial accountability. We need to make the most of the investments we’ve started and plan for the future of our communities’ parks and programs.

Living in the community for 22 years, I served on my neighborhood association board and the Sacramento County Fair Board, coached little league, and volunteered in the community and at my children’s school. I created the Rancho Cordova City Seal and started and named the first City newsletter, the Rancho Cordova City Views. For the last four years, I have donated my time and artistic talent in creating the logos for the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Celebration.

I have built strong relationships and have the support of many community leaders such as: Guy Anderson, Cordova High Coach and Cordova Recreation & Park District Board Member; Max Miller, retired Cordova High Athletic Director and Varsity Football Coach; Troy Konarski, Sunriver resident; Roger Benton, Folsom Cordova School Board President; Ed Short, Folsom Cordova School Board Member; Linda Budge, Mayor Rancho Cordova; Ken Cooley, Rancho Cordova City Council Member;

Gay Jones, Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District Board Member; and Don Nottoli, Sacramento County Supervisor. I know the value of working together as a team.

 For nearly 30 years, I have promoted non-profit organizations, public agencies, and private businesses with my award winning commercial art, specializing in marketing, public relations and graphic design. As a small business owner, I know the importance of working with limited funds, staying on budget and making deadlines. We need to be effective in communicating all the park district has to offer you and your neighborhoods.

 My wife, Rebecca, worked for a State Senator and the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. She brought parents and volunteers to the classroom, from business, police, fire departments and community service groups to promote reading and academic performance. And with three kids of our own, we appreciate the value of safe and fun recreation opportunities.

 Sports, arts, and playgrounds in new and old neighborhoods . . . this we all enjoy, but we need to focus on our diverse community’s changing needs. We must keep programs affordable and our parks safe places to gather for our seniors, youth, and all of us in between.

 You can be sure I will listen to your concerns and know where we need to improve. Please vote for me for Park Board and I will make sure we have something fun for everyone.
