David La Pierre for Cordova Recreation and Park District

I am a resident of Gold River and have lived in the Rancho Cordova area for thirty years.  I am a United States Marine Corps Vietnam veteran.  I have a BA degree from Sacramento State University and a JD degree from Northwestern California University, School of Law. I am married to Carol La Pierre, the Principal at Rancho Cordova’s Cordova Meadows Elementary School.  We have one daughter, Christy, who participated in many Rancho Cordova Recreation and Park District sports and activities, earned a soccer scholarship to Stanford University, and is currently an attorney with K & L Gates in San Francisco.  I am self-employed in the transportation business and, for many years, have been a committed citizen and business supporter of numerous local sports, school, and youth organizations. I have served as president of my homeowner association board, and actively volunteer in our local schools and communities in the Rancho Cordova and Sacramento areas.

If I am elected as a Rancho Cordova Parks and Recreation Director, I will vow to fulfill all the requirements of this position to the best of my ability.  I will support current parks and quality recreation programs, while putting a greater emphasis on youth, senior citizen needs, and financial accountability.  I am especially concerned with the prevalence of childhood obesity that is evident among children and adolescents, and will work to adopt programs that will create a positive awareness that focuses on nutrition and physical fitness activities, since these are key to our youth making better choices, thus leading to healthier lifestyles.  I will also advocate for Senior Citizen programs to be expanded to accommodate for the influx of Baby Boomers retiring, since research indicates our nation is on the brink of a longevity revolution.  As the growing number of older Americans increase, demands on our Parks and Recreation system need to change to accommodate for them.   Proactive planning for the future of our community parks and programs is imperative to assure the demand meets the physical well-being of all of our citizens, and that changing needs across all age levels is met. We must keep programs available that interest and encourage citizen participation, but remain affordable. Through my expertise and experience, I am confident I can make this happen, resulting in an even better Rancho Cordova community.  All citizen concerns will be considered, and I will work on areas mandating improvements.  I will strive to make sure the community has a strong voice in the operation of the Rancho Cordova Recreation and Park District, and that safe practices for all park facilities are addressed.  I know that working together will make a positive difference for the growing Rancho Cordova population, thus enriching lives and providing recreational opportunities for all of our citizens.

I am looking forward to representing you as a Director on the Rancho Cordova Parks and Recreation Board, and would appreciate your vote.  Thank you.

The crowd at Friday’s non-league contest between the Cordova Lancers and the visiting El Camino Eagles, watched as Cordova’s football team defeated El Camino by a score of 31-14. This marks their first win of the season after a 22-43 loss to the Bella Vista Broncos. First year coach Vince Isbell gets his first win and next week will be a challenge to see if he can repeat this feat against coach Mike Morales and the Florin Panthers.
