Pancakes and Politics in Cordova Towne
Cordova Towne Hosts First Campaign Event of the Election
Residents and local candidates came together in the Cordova Towne neighborhood of Rancho Cordova Saturday morning for a pancake breakfast and chance to meet local candidates for office. A brief count included about 40 residents and a dozen candidates for office. The event was organized by the Cordova Towne neighborhood association on behalf of City Council member Ken Cooley.
The pancakes were hot and fresh and everyone seemed to enjoy the small town atmosphere including the kids. The family oriented event attracted local residents young and old and allowed local candidates a chance to hear first hand about issues in the community. One of the hot topics was White Rock park and the lack of maintenance by the CRPD. Numerous residents cited the park as their major concern for the neighborhood.
One of the main organizers of the event was Ryan Lundquist, a neighborhood association organizer and a contributor to the RC Post. Many local candidates were in attendance including City Council members Ken Cooley, Bob McGarvey and Dan Skoglund. Kumar Kalagara who is running for Folsom Cordova School Board was also in attendance sharing his message of Better Education, Fiscal Responsibility and Uniform Growth.
SMUD Board candidate and local Rancho Cordovan Nancy Bui was in attendance and eagerly talking to residents to promote her campaign as the only local resident running for the often overlooked SMUD Board.
Other candidates in attendance included five running for the Cordova Recreation and Parks District. Mixing among the crowd were Ken Tough, David Ivazian, Mark Baxter, Gold River resident David La Pierre, and small business owner and commercial artist Rick Sloan.
In all it was a great morning to share pancakes and politics with Rancho Cordova neighbors. Update: Attendees estimate the rolling count of participants at upwards of 100-150 throughout the event.

Thanks for coming out to our event today. We had a blast visiting with Ken and all the other candidates, not to mention meeting other residents. Good times.

Great job with the event, it seemed like everyone had a good time and a chance to meet others in the community which is always a good thing. We may need to hire you to be our photographer. This was indeed a great morning. It gave us voters an opportunity to voice our concerns as well as have faces for the names on our ballots. I now have a better idea who I will vote for as well as who I will not. Thank you to Ken for hosting this fantastic event.

We actually had somewhere around 100 people +/- throughout the 90 minutes of our event. Ken’s wife says we went through 128 cups during the event.
