Just when we thought the Rancho Cordova Police Department was all about stopping drunk drivers and making sure people weren’t using a cell phone while driving, they show us a softer side. The Rancho Cordova Police Activities League (PAL) will be hosting a series of monthly Saturday Night Out programs beginning September 13th. The goal of the program is to get Rancho Cordova youths involved with members of the Police Department in a non-threatening, casual atmosphere that enforces the humanity of each group to the other, rather than relying on stereotypes.
The programs, much like the Friday Night out program at Mills Middle School of previous summers, will include sports such as dodge ball and baseball and games like Guitar Hero and Rock Star. Because there has never been a lot for kids and teens to do in the area, PAL organizers hope to create co-ed baseball clinics and soccer leagues that complement other sports organizations put on by the Cordova Recreation and Parks District or area schools.
Police Lt. Matt Morgan is the president of the Ranch Cordova Police Activity League board of directors. Based on the amount of contributions given to the Friday Night Out series, Morgan is certain that business will be supportive of the PAL projects. “There is no end to what we can do if we have the resources”, he says. The Rancho Cordova Police Activity League has gained official non-profit organization status, it can begin seeking corporation and foundation contributions.
