The Sacramento Metro Chamber is hosting their 2008 Congressional Speaker series in Rancho Cordova. On Thursday, August 28th Congressman Dan Lungren servng the 3rd District of California will offer an update on the issues affecting the region at home and in Washington, D.C.

Annually, the Metro Chamber’s Congressional Speaker Series brings together business, community and government leaders to help Metro Chamber members stay connected to decision-makers in our nation’s capital. The series is comprised of individual events scheduled at locations throughout the region.

The event will be held at the Sacramento Marriott Rancho Cordova on Point East Drive. Registration begins at 11 am with the program and lunch from 11:30 am until 1:30 pm. Registration is $65 for Metro Chamber members and $90 for non-members, local chamber members can register at the Metro Chamber member price.

Dan Lungren first sought elective office in 1976, narrowly losing a bid for California’s 34th Congressional District. Two years later he re-challenged the two-term incumbent and won the Congressional seat in California’s historic 1978 “Proposition 13” election year. Lungren served in the U.S. Congress for 10 years where he was viewed as a Republican leader in criminal justice and immigration issues. He left Congress in 1989 and returned to California.

In 1990, Lungren was elected as attorney general of California, a position he held for eight years. During his two-term service, Lungren helped author and later defended in court California’s landmark “Three-Strikes” law. The events of 9/11 prompted Lungren’s return to public service. Believing that each of us had to respond in the most effective way to the terrorist threat, he sought election to the Congress so that the lessons learned from his past governmental experience might be added to the national debate.

Mr. Lungren represents the 3rd District of California by serving on the Budget, Homeland Security, Judiciary and House Administration committees.
