2008 Election Cycle in Full Swing
It’s that time of the year again. Election season. If you haven’t seen or heard any of the candidates yet, it’s time to crawl out from under the rock you’ve been hiding under. The U.S. Presidential candidates having been sparring for months – raising money, debating, trying to get out the vote, but now the local candidates also get their shot at making a difference.
The candidates for City Council, School and Parks Board have filed their paperwork and the County Registrar of Voters has certified the qualified applications. There are some new names and some returning candidates. Most notably three City Council incumbents are up for re-election in what appears to be a lock for each of them given the current approval ratings and favorable budget surplus situation.
Two incumbents from the Cordova Recreation and Parks Board have decided to not seek re-election this time around. This may be a sign of trouble on the board given the recent complaints of misappropriation of park district funds and general lack of follow through on promised park improvements. There will be seven candidates vying for 2 seat in what might become the most hotly contested race locally.
On the Folsom Cordova Unified School District Board two seats are also up for grabs. In what has become a Folsom versus Rancho Cordova annual contest for control of the school district only one of the two incumbents has filed to run for re-election. In this race eight candidates will presumably vie for the uncontested spot on the Board.
The RC Post would like to extend an open invitation to any candidate to submit a candidate statement. We will compile the statements, 100 words or less, and publish them in two weeks.

Name: Kendall (Ken) Tough
Occupation: Youth Career Consultant
Education and Qualifications: I have lived in the Sacramento area since 1999 and I love the community. As an active member of Rotary, I believe in being active in community affairs for the growth and the development of family values.
Previously, I held staff management positions in government/public affairs, community relations, and cooperative education. It provided opportunity to do something for somebody else, to sense fulfillment which comes in the process and brings returns to one’s own life. If you elect me, I vow a tireless effort to drive projects forward improving community services for the enjoyment of families and friends.
Together we can effect change to the Cordova Recreation and Park District to make it a model park district and a vibrant part of our community. Please support me and I will support you!
