Most everyone is touched by the crisis that cancer causes- whether it’s a personal struggle or that of a friend or relative. Now is the time of year that our community can band together to support, encourage, and empower those effected by cancer.

The main Relay for life event will be held on October 4-5 at Mills Middle School from 10 a.m. on Saturday to 10 a.m. on Sunday. Volunteers are still needed for the set up crew, clean up crew, help in the survivor area, help with the Luminaria Ceremony and general help to make the relay a hit.

Cancer Survivors are also welcomed to volunteer as you share a special kind of hope with those who are newly diagnosed.

Leading up to the Relay in October are a series of fundraisers. If you can’t be a part of the relay but would still like to support the cause come on out to a fundraiser!

Moose Lodge Car Wash- August 30th from 9 to 1 at The Moose Family Center (10124 Coloma Rd.)

Rancho Cordova Police Department at Straw Hat Pizza- August 26 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. at Straw Hat Pizza (2929 Mather Field Rd). 50% of all pizza sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

Finding Treasure in the Front Yard

Not long ago on a Friday I drove home after a long and tiring week of work and found my neighbor Queen bringing in my trashcans. While getting out of my truck Queen grinned and told me I was not supposed to catch her in the act. This was a small deed of kindness on her part, but I gave her a big hug and thanked her for making my day.
