Fire Destroys Capitol Village Townhomes

Early Sunday morning neighbors in the Capitol Village subdivision watched as flames engulfed a nearby construction site. The four alarm fire completely destroyed 12 town homes. The fire started at a two-building complex that is still under construction in the Urban Village area near Prospect Park and International Drive at 6 a.m.

The fire quickly gained force and nearby residents had to be evacuated. “The way it was raining down embers, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Stephanie Hass a nearby resident who witnessed the fire.

Mark Van Brunt from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department said that surrounding units and apartments also suffered damage from the heat. The total cost of the blaze is being estimated at more than $1 million.

Arson investigators believe the fire was intentionally set, and Rancho Cordova Police Department has arrested two teenagers who were allegedly seen vandalizing the construction site before the fire was reported.

There were no reports of injuries caused by the fire.

  1. Great photo. I have some after the fire was put out. There was ash and embers still present throughout the development hours later and a smell that something had burned. I wonder if this is connected to the little league and softball equipment fires?

  2. I was wondering about a connection with the fires along the AR Parkway. At least one of those was considered suspicious, but I haven’t heard anything about an investigation. Has anyone heard anything?
