How to Pinch a Penny Till It Screams

We’re all feeling the pinch of rising prices—at the pump and at the grocery store. I say its time to pinch back and make those pennies give up a little more!

With food prices going up nearly as fast as gas prices, in an upcoming series of articles we are going to explore some simple ways to save money on food bills.

When I say simple, I mean simple. Really, really simple. As in, if I can do it and not mess it up, blow it up or poison any one when I cook it, you too can successfully do it! I’m talking Betty Crocker and Martha Stewart would be ashamed to know me. However, for some strange reason I feel the need to feed that guy I married and those kids who keep calling me “Mom.”

Included with our articles on putting a little hurt on those pennies will be recipes geared to that week’s topic. With that said, and my honestly admitted total lack of talent in the kitchen, I would love some input from you readers. If you have a favorite “Screaming Penny” recipe or tip, please send it in. Impress your friends and neighbors. Make your mom proud. We’d love to hear from you and publish you in the RC Post! Send your your tips and recipes to sl_rcpost@yahoo.com and we’ll feature the best on our website for all to admire!

How about just emptying the contents of your pantry into a boiling pan of water and just seeing if the kids will eat it. We all have items in our pantry that have been there for months if not years. What once was a well intentioned purchase, has now just been resigned to gathering dust in the cupboard. I.E. cans of kidney beans, cream of broccolli soup, noodles and even the occasional powdered salad and/or marinade mix. Lets get creative! Lets see just how hungry those darn kids really are!

I think this weekly column is great fun and I for one will be sure to read it each and every week. I can’t wait to see how creative people can get and I am looking forward to trying some new recepies as well.

    Thank you!

Riding a bike to where you need to and with your family is a great way to exercise and bond. In addition, riding with friends or other families within the neighborhood is great fun too. This saves on gas and promotes health.

  5. I think this is a awesome ad with food and gas going up so high these days.
