Rancho Cordova Murder Suspects Arrested

Two young men suspected of the murder of William “Billy” Deer, have been booked on charges of robbery, torture and murder. Deer was found severely beaten, the morning of June 7th, 2008 on Mills Station Rd.  He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 12:20 the same day.

Deer had served in the Marine Corp, and in 1977, at the age of 20,  was hit by a drunken driver while on his motorcycle. The accident crushed his skull, and left him with chronic and severe pain in his knees.  He still loved to dance, and enjoyed music-clapping and singing along.  He had most recently worked for Sacramento Parks and Recreation as a park keeper.

Initial investigation led authorities to believe that Deer had been assaulted. Further investigation, and reports from witnesses led to the arrest of James Davis Washington, 18 and a 17 year old accomplice. Washington has been booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail, and the juvenile was booked in Juvenile Hall.
